Our mission is to reduce homelessness for children and their families in Anderson County by uniting local congregations through an Interfaith Hospitality Network to provide shelter, food and the necessary tools needed for the families to regain their independence.

Thank you for a successful first year!

On Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010, Family Promise of Anderson County opened its doors to serve homeless families with children in Anderson County.  In the 9 months we were open in 2010, we averaged 35 calls per month from people seeking assistance.  We interviewed over 60 families, and accepted 34 guests into Family Promise.  Guests in our program averaged 109 days and we successfully placed 8 families in permanent housing.  But these numbers only begin to tell the story.

The Andrews family came with little more than the clothing on their backs.  Ms. Andrews had recently moved from Maryland to help a friend, and friction in the household left her and her 3 children without a place to stay.  After diligently applying for jobs, Ms. Andrews started working as a home healthcare provider and shortly afterward, was able to purchase her own vehicle.  A connection she made through one of our Host Congregations was able to provide her with a sare, affordable place to live allowing the children to stay in the same school system.

Family Promise cannot operate this ministry, to assist families like the Andrews, without the generous support of our many host and support congregations, like you, that have united to provide meals, overnight lodging, fellowship, and loving hospitality.  Your care and concern for our guest families has been overwhelming.

More than numbers, our guests are people--human beings not all that different from you and me.  They are people in a situation--the term "homeless" does not define who they are, it is simply a situation in which they find themselves.  With your help and support, we are helping these families gain their independence and stabilize their lives; and, we are teaching our community that family homelessness is real, and real people experience it, real people just like us.

Thank you again for your tremendous support:  past, present, and future.  We pray that as the need continues, so will the wonderful ministry of our local congregations through the Family Promise network.  Thank you!!

Sincerely,
Mark Wise, Network Director
